Locked out of your car in Phoenix? We're 18 minutes away.
Mall parking lots, apartment complexes, Sky Harbor terminal decks, event lots after Cardinals and Suns games, we handle the four most common Phoenix lockout scenarios every day.
The four Phoenix lockouts we run every week
1. Mall and shopping center lockouts
The four largest lockout-volume lots in the Valley are Scottsdale Fashion Square, Tempe Marketplace, Chandler Fashion Center, and Westgate Entertainment District. Each gets a steady flow of locked-out shoppers who put keys in a bag, in a stroller, or on a fitting-room hook. We average 18 to 25 minutes to those locations because they're on our regular dispatch routes.
We know the security staff at each, the access roads to each parking deck level, and the spots where signal coverage drops out so the dispatcher knows we may be briefly out of contact while the driver is in the deck.
2. Apartment complex lockouts
Phoenix has seen heavy multifamily construction over the past decade. The Mill Avenue corridor in Tempe (mostly ASU students and young professionals), the Camelback corridor through Phoenix and Scottsdale (young professionals and downsizing empty-nesters), and the Chandler Loop 202 corridor (tech workers) are the densest lockout zones. Most apartment lots don't require gate codes for tow trucks, but if yours does, tell the dispatcher and we'll route around it.
3. Sky Harbor airport lockouts
Sky Harbor is the 13th-busiest airport in the country, and we get a steady flow of locked-out travelers who realized their keys were in the cup holder as the shuttle was pulling away. The Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 parking decks are the most common locations, plus the long-term economy lots off Buckeye Road.
Sky Harbor response runs 22 to 32 minutes depending on terminal and traffic. If you're on a tight flight, tell the dispatcher and we'll prioritize the call.
4. Event lot lockouts
State Farm Stadium (Cardinals, concerts), Footprint Center (Suns, Mercury, concerts), Chase Field (Diamondbacks), and Mullett Arena (Coyotes, ASU hockey) produce a wave of post-event lockouts. These are tougher because of post-event traffic congestion, but we know the access patterns. Most event lockouts are resolved in 25 to 40 minutes once we're in the lot.
Critical priority: child, pet, or elderly person inside
Phoenix summer heat is dangerous. Interior temperatures inside a closed vehicle exceed 130°F within ten minutes when the ambient temperature is above 95°F. Cracked windows do almost nothing, the heat rises just as fast. If a child, pet, or elderly adult is locked inside the vehicle, tell the dispatcher immediately. We treat it as critical priority and roll the closest truck in front of any other call.
If we can't reach you within seven minutes and the temperature is above 95°F, the dispatcher will tell you to call 911. Phoenix Fire is faster than any tow company in the city for genuine emergencies, and they will break a window without hesitation if life is at risk. Don't wait if there's any doubt.
The vehicles where lockout takes longer
Most cars open in under five minutes once the driver is on scene. The exceptions are newer European cars with anti-pry door seals (Audi, BMW, Mercedes after 2018), some specialty Tesla models, and certain trim levels of Lexus and Acura with sensor-locked doors. For those, we use the modern key-loop tool, which adds a few minutes but still avoids window damage.
A small percentage of vehicles, usually older European cars with worn lock actuators, cannot be opened by tow methods at all. In those cases we recommend a locksmith who can either rebuild the lock cylinder or program a new key fob. We can refer one if you don't have one.
